Wellbeing Walks

Back to Activities

Wellbeing Walks are led by friendly, trained leaders who provide encouragement and support, and make sure no one gets left behind. Wellbeing Walks are open to everyone, but some are aimed at those who are less active or who may be facing mental health challenges.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • walking is a good way to start getting active;
  • it is a group activity & a great way to meet new people;
  • getting outside & exploring your local area is energising.

“Walking has always been there for me, my confidence has grown immensely. I’m a totally different person now than I was ten years ago and I owe so much of that to walking.” Kath – a walker with bipolar disorder

Ben Truett (Physical Activity Coordinator, South Cambs District Council) explains what a Wellbeing Walk is:

What to expect

Wellbeing Walks are sociable group walks led by trained leaders. They are open to anyone of any age, fitness or ability but many are aimed at those who are less active. Some walks are suitable for pushchairs – check with the group leader first.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are weather-appropriate, and bring some water to drink.

It’s always worth checking with the walk leader beforehand to make sure the walk is taking place as planned.
