Over Day Centre

Back to Activities

Over Day Centre is a purpose-built care facility with qualified staff providing a safe, friendly environment for older people & those living with memory loss in South Cambridgeshire. It provides professional care, social interaction, recreation and friendship.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • meeting people who have similar experiences can make us feel less alone;
  • visiting Over Day Centre gives carers/family respite;
  • getting out of the house and doing something different can be daunting but the sense of achievement afterwards feels great.

‘I come every day. It’s always been fun. I have a laugh; I have a chat. I like it when there’s something going on, like the children coming to visit, or when there’s music. You can ask anyone who comes here and they’ll have something nice to say about the Centre.’  Jean

What to expect

Over Day Centre is for older people and those with memory loss.

After an initial chat over the telephone to discuss interests, needs and requirements, you can book as many or as few sessions at the Centre as you’d like – the more sessions you attend, the more friends you’ll make!

If you live in Bar Hill, Longstanton, Swavesey, Over or Willingham you can arrange to be collected in the accessible minibus and taken to and from the Centre door-to-door. However, anyone from any village in South Cambs can come along if they can arrange their own transport.

On arrival in the morning, you’ll be greeted with refreshments and can then enjoy a wide range of activities including gentle exercise, talks, arts & crafts, music and chat. You can even arrange to have a fully accessible bath/shower discreetly supervised by a professional carer or a haircut and/or foot care.

At lunchtime, you’ll have a freshly prepared two course meal with more activities and tea/cake in the afternoon. You can take the minibus home if you live in the villages mentioned above or be collected by taxi or car (there’s ample parking outside).

Over Day Centre is run by qualified professional carers who are friendly and thoughtful, as well as health & safety conscious. They are experienced with helping people with mobility issues and are trained to administer prescribed medicines. All staff and volunteers are fully DBS checked. The Centre is fully accessible and following social distancing guidelines for Covid safety.

Over Day Centre is also always on the lookout for volunteers to help prepare food, keep the Centre looking good and fundraising.
