Surrounded by publicly accessible fields, waterways, footpaths and woods, the earthworks at Giant's Hill in Rampton are the remains of a 12th century castle - an historic monument ideal for exploring.

What to expect
Situated next to All Saints’ Church in Rampton, Giant’s Hill and Rampton Woods offer a green space that is ideal for exploring – walking, running, playing or walking the dog. In spring and summer it is a lovely spot for a picnic and there are benches to sit on in the woods.
There are information panels on site so you can find out more about the history of the castle earthworks, as well as some of the plants, animals and birds you might see. Public footpaths are well sign-posted and take you across fields or along waterways.

Free parking is available by the village green, with Giant’s Hill accessible via a path alongside the church or a gate on Rampton Road.
The site can get muddy so bring walking boots or wellies if it has been raining. If you are planning a long visit, bring drinks and snacks (and binoculars for bird spotting). There is no visitor centre, cafe, shop or public toilet on site or in the village, but there is a pub nearby.
Due to the livestock that graze the site (mostly sheep), dogs must be kept on lead. It is not a suitable site for pushchairs or wheelchair users, as there are ‘kissing gates’ that might be tricky to negotiate.
Visiting Giant’s Hill is free. The site is owned and managed by Cambridgeshire County Farms.
