Aspire provides friendship, groups and activities for autistic children and young people. It is a programme run Romsey Mill, a local charity for families, children & young people.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- it’s an opportunity for autistic young people to get together;
- Aspire encourages participants to try new things in a safe and supportive environment – building confidence and developing social skills;
- it’s fun!

What to expect
Aspire groups and activities take place in a variety of venues in South Cambs (Cambourne and Linton) and north and south Cambridge City. The groups are run by Aspire team youth workers and trained volunteers. At the groups, you can choose what you’d like to do – from playing with LEGO or a computer game, or time hanging out in a quieter space with a drink and a toastie. Ruth and the Aspire team have worked with lots of autistic young people and understand what you might need to have fun, feel comfortable and stay safe. No one will judge you for being yourself.

Aspire supports autistic young people living in Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire. Aspire activities and groups reduce social isolation and improve the lives and mental well-being of the young people who attend.

To access the Aspire programme a child needs to:
- have an autism diagnosis;
- be in mainstream school, in Year 5 or above (up to age 18);
- live in the City of Cambridge or South Cambridgeshire.
Romsey Mill receives a high number of enquiries and referrals for Aspire and operates waiting lists for many of the groups.
Talk to the Aspire team about funding for attending these groups as circumstances vary.
